The Law of Repeated Exposure and Your Coaching Career

I remember sitting at a sports performance seminar when I was 22 years old. I had just passed my CSCS exam and was eager to meet others, like me, who were passionate about working with athletes.

I can still envision the room. 10 rows of 10 chairs angled at the large white wall in front of us and Eric Cressey was the featured speaker.

Quick aside, if you don’t know who Eric Cressey is, Google him, then check out this awesome course he did with Bill Parisi on Thoracic Outlet Syndrome…wowza…

Coach Cressey said something that I still remember vividly to this day.

“Many Coaches sitting in this room are going to be great at what they do, not because of the books the read or research they write…but because of the people you surround yourself with and the hours you spend actually coaching.”

As a newly graduated student and freshly certified Performance Coach, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. If we are being perfectly honest, I was pretty disappointed.

You see, I didn’t understand what Eric meant until I was at the Parisi Speed School National Summit two years later. I was there to accept an award for being Parisi’s Coach of the Year.

When interviewed on what helped me stand out, my answer was simple.

“I surround myself with people who challenge my thought processes and I have the opportunity to work with a ton of awesome athletes in Vermont.”

At that moment everything came full circle. After graduation and certification, I jumped in hard to the ‘law of repeated exposure’. In the most simple terms, I exposed myself over and over again to practical coaching. Specifically, I coached speed training day in and day out. Quite literally 7 days a week so I could afford rent and groceries!

That mentality is the driving force to the Parisi Speed School Sports Performance Mentorship.

12 weeks of repeated exposure to the who, what, and how of speed and sports performance coaching. When you’re able to expose yourself to it, coached by experts in the field, you fast track your ability to understand key concepts, and provide yourself with a direct avenue to ask first-hand questions as they relate to your coaching practice.

So, Coach, how are you going to better yourself in 2023?
